Mary Skopec
IOWATER Program Coordinator and Research Geologist
Mary started working for the Iowa DNR - Iowa Geological Survey in 1991. Since 1991, she has been
involved in several agency-wide projects with impacts on water quality. In particular, Mary coordinated a statewide pesticide database to
track pesticide occurrences in Iowa's water resources. In January 2000,
she started working for the Watershed Monitoring and Assessment Section (WMAS). Among other things for the Section, Mary currently coordinates and
analyzes data from the statewide Ambient Water Monitoring Program. She also serves as the IOWATER Volunteer Monitoring Program Coordinator.
Mary earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees in geography from the University of Iowa, and in 1999 she completed her Ph.D. in environmental science.

Lisa Fascher
Research Geologist
Lisa received her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from The University of Iowa in 2003 and her master’s degree in Environmental Science and Water Resources from Indiana University in 2005. While at Indiana University she worked with the Indiana Clean Lakes Program and coordinated the Indiana Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program. Prior to joining DNR, she worked at the University Hygienic Laboratory where she was mainly involved in the ambient lake sampling program.

Jacklyn Gautsch
Natural Resource Biologist
Jackie's primary duties include training IOWATER volunteers, coordinating volunteers and watershed groups within
IOWATER and biological monitoring. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology and earth science from the
University of Wisconsin. Jackie has participated in a variety of biological research projects including herpetological
studies with the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, a study on caddisflies with the University of Wisconsin
- La Crosse, and a fish-monitoring program with the Upper Mississippi Long Term Resource Monitoring Program, the
University of Wisconsin, and the IDNR. She has also held a variety of positions with the Girl Scouts of Riverland and
joined the Watershed Monitoring and Assessment Section in January 2001.

Lynette Seigley
Research Geologist
Lynette received her undergraduate degree in geology from the College of
Wooster in Ohio and her graduate degree, also in geology, from the University of
Iowa. She has worked as a research geologist for the IGS since 1987, on a
variety of projects addressing the impacts of nonpoint source pollution on both
surface water and groundwater. Since January 2000, Lynette has worked in
the Watershed Monitoring and Assessment Section and has been extensively involved in the IOWATER program.

Brian Soenen
Project A.W.A.R.E. Coordinator and Natural Resource Biologist
Brian joined the IOWATER team in
March 2002. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2000 with a
bachelor's degree in natural history interpretation. Prior to coming to the
IDNR, Brian worked as a naturalist and park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers at Coralville Lake in Johnson County. His primary duties with IOWATER
include program and workshop development, public relations, and coordination of
the IDNR's annual
Project A.W.A.R.E. river clean-up event.
